Sweet and sour chicken is something we’d order in the restaurant whenever we have a nice family dinner on a Saturday. Interestingly it is one of the most simple yet messy dish to prepare.
Ingredients:
- 2 pieces of chicken thighs (bite size pieces)
- 2 grated garlic
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoon (or more if you’d like) Brown sugar
- 2 tablespoon (or more if you’d like) of ketchup
- 1 egg (you can skip this if you have egg allergies)
- 1 drop of red dye (optional)
- 1 cup of water
- A dash of fish sauce (optional)
- Flour
- Corn starch
- Neutral oil (vegetable oil)
- Spring onion (optional)
How to cook Sweet & Sour chicken:

- In a bowl, add chicken, soy sauce and egg. Massage the chicken and leave it aside for 10 to 15 minutes.
- With the sauce – mix ketchup, sugar, water, rice vinegar, fish sauce (optional), red food dye (optional), a little soy and a dash of corn starch in as small bowl.

- Add some flour to the chicken while heating up the neutral oil in the wok.
- Coat the chicken with corn starch and fry the chicken in the wok when the oil is hot enough. This is optional, but you can double fry the chicken if you want the double crunch.
- Remove most of the oil and leave a little amount of oil before adding the mixture of the sauce to the wok.
- Add the chicken and stir fry it for the next 3 to 4 minutes. Sprinkle some spring onion if you’d like.

It’s a gentle sweet dish that goes very well with some veges and rice! A fun dish to add to the dinning table
