Focaccia bread recipe (1 day)

There’s always one of those days where you want to dip your fresh bread with thick extra virgin olive oil with a glass of white wine. This is a fun recipe to experiment and enjoy the scientific process!

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of Bread flour  (also known as Baker’s Flour or Strong Flour)
  • 420 ml warm water
  • 1 teaspoon of yeast
  • 2 teaspoon of seasalt
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
  • 2 teapoon of extra virgin olive oil (for the dough)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl with 420 ml warm water, add 1 teaspoon of yeast, 2 teaspoon of sea salt, 1 teaspoon or honey and 2 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil; whisk it well and let it sit on the kicthen couter for 10 minutes.
  2. Add 500 gram of bread flour to your bowl and mix it well.
  3. Fold your dough and cover your bowl with a cloth, leave it under room temperature for 15 minutes.
  4. On the 2nd time, fold your dough again and cover your bowl with a cloth, leave it under room temperature for another 15 minutes.
  5. On the final round of folding, fold your dough and cover your bowl with a cloth once you’re done folding, leave it under room temperature for 1 hour 30 minutes.
  6. With a baking tray, place a baking sheet in the tray before generously oil every corder with 3 tablespoon of olive oil.
  7. Gently tip your dough into the baking pan, and fold your dough into a burrito shape before flipping it upside down, leaving the smooth side up. Cover your baking pan and leave the dough under room temperature for another 1 hour 30 minutes.
  8. Drizle it with olive oil and flakes sea salt, then dimple your dough whilst adding any toppings of your liking (rosemary etc)
  9. Pre-heat your oven at 430F/ 220C, place your baking pan in the oven on the middle rack for 35-45 minutes or until the edges and top is golden.

Tip: I admit I’m terrible in baking and failed to rise the bread on my very first try. To make things simpler, definitely get a bread flour that indicates it’s suitable to bake Focaccia to make life simpler.

Once you’re done, drizzle some olive oil on top and dip your bread in extra virgin olive oil before inhaling it!
