A very classic yet simple prawn recipe my mom would cook for me whenever I visit home.
Ingredients:
- 6 cloves of garlic
- 4 slices of ginger
- 1 bird’s eye chili
- 1 kg of fresh prawns (deshell)
- Salt
- Potato starch
Instructions:

- Deshell your prawns and made sure you devein the prawns (click here to view videos on how to deshell your prawns)
- FYI – with the prawns in Malaysia, you can leave the green stuff in. As for prawns in Australia, you will have to remove all gunks
- Heat up your cooking pan/wok with vegetable cooking oil, then add in garlic cloves and ginger slices, then add some salt

- When both garlics and ginger turns slightly brown, add your fresh prawns to the wok/pan and stir fry it
- Cook the prawns up to 3 or 4 minutes and add some chili if you’d like it spicy
- In a bowl, add 1 teaspoon of potato starch and add some water to the bowl. Pour a tiny amount of the mixture to the prawns
- Remove the prawns from your pan/wok when they’re done (refer to the photo to the right)
